Our first venue, NHS, located at 800 E John Sims Pkwy, Niceville, FL, 32578, will host (1) Niceville Pride’s Annual Pride Walk, (2) PFLAG Niceville’s Silent Auction, (3) LGBTQIA+ affirming retail and food vendors and, (4) an open-mic support-group meeting. This venue will provide a space for local organizations and businesses who are actively involved in the promotion, inclusion, and education of LGBTQIA+ peoples to make themselves transparent within our community. NHS will house booths for local organizations/businesses wishing to promote useful resources for LGBTQIA+ youths, adolescents, and adults. Additionally, food truck vendors will be present to supply you with all of your food and beverage needs. Set-up will begin at 7:00am, the silent auction and booths will open at 8:00am; and the pride festivities to follow will start at 9:00am.

To introduce the aforementioned pride festivities, the Chair of Niceville Pride, Logan Goodson, will announce and recognize the numerous organizations, businesses, and individuals who helped fund and organize Niceville Pride. We will encourage everyone in attendance to support these businesses throughout the year.

After, the President of PFLAG Niceville and Faculty Advisor to the NWFSC GSA, Dr. David Simmons, will provide an inspirational speech entitled “We Walk Together” that will uplift the expected 500+ participants of Niceville Pride.

Following these speeches, Niceville Pride will kick off with a march down John Sims Pkwy. Participants of Niceville Pride willing and wishing to participate in this march, will walk from NHS to Walmart, turn around, and return to NHS via sidewalks on John Sims Pkwy. Along the path of this march, there will be stations set up for water, snacks, and mom hugs to continue to involve participants of Niceville Pride who are unable to physically walk the distance of the march.

After the completion of the march down John Sims Pkwy, participants of Niceville Pride and other community members will continue celebrating Pride with a reception hosted by NHS. This reception will provide water, snacks, fun booths, purchasable retail, a safe place to express your personal pride via an open mic support-group meeting, and a silent auction. This event will end at 1:00pm.

Movie screening: Love, Simon
3pm - 5pm - Mattie Kelly Arts Center

Our second venue, the Mattie Kelly Arts Center, located at 100 E College Blvd, Niceville, FL 32578, will host Niceville Pride’s movie screening of Love, Simon. The screening will start at 3:00pm and conclude at 5:00pm after an open discussion on the film’s important, emotional message. Love, Simon is the first major studio film about a gay kid’s coming out. “Though it tells an emotional story about identity and coming out, it’s an easygoing movie, glossy and kind and cozily corny. And yet, it was also a fraught experience both pained and giddy, cheering and dismaying” (Vanity Fair, 2018).
